Chapter chemistry for beginners chapter 4:Elements & Compounds it's differences

Element  and compounds are the building blocks of matter, but they have distinct differences.

I this article we are going to know about them deeply like definition, properties, composition & examples.

Elements :

A substance consisting of only one type of atom, characterised by it's atomic number.

Composition :

Elements are pure substances made up of only one kind of atom.
For better understanding of this we can consider an example of roti, it is made up of only one type of Flour which is wheat flour, there are nothing mixed like rice flour and any other type of flour.

Properties :

Elements have their own unique physical & chemical properties, such as atomic mass, electronegativity, reactivity etc.

Example :

Hydrogen (H2), Oxygen (O2).

Compounds :

A substance which is formed when two or more different elements are chemically bonded together.

Composition :

Made up of two or more than two different elements in a fixed ratio.
For example we can consider chai or tea. For making a perfect cup of tea we have to take milk, water, sugar, ginger, cardemum etc in a fixed ratio.

Properties :

Properties are very different from their constituent elements.
Their properties are determined by types and  arrangement of the atoms.

Example :

H2O, CO2, NaCl etc.
If you meet someone who is quite good in questioning & if you told them that you like chemistry then, they might asked you that hydrogen have tendency to burn and oxygen has tendency to help in burning, then, why water which is made up of hydrogen and oxygen, puts out the fire.
Then, you can tell them the real reason that water is a compound not an element, and compounds have different properties than that of their constituent elements.

Key difference between elements and compounds :
